Last Saturday we went to Pikes Peak. It is about an hour drive away from our house. It is really neat because you are able to drive to the summit which is over 14,000 ft. We had a great day trip as a family.

Spencer with the old miner statue.

Travis and Kathryn at the top. She was super cold. It was so neat to be able to see 360 degrees and look at the prairie to the east and Rockies to the west. It was very inspiring.

It was about 80 degrees down in the valley, but about 30 degrees at the top with lots and lots of chilly wind. We could only stay outside about 10 min or so. They have a gift shop and restaurant at the top that we warmed up in. There was so much snow it was crazy!

Spencer and I at the top. His poor little toes were sure cold. It was so beautiful at the summit. The air was thin though and the cloud were so close.

Spencer thought this tree growing out of the rock was SO cool!

Kathryn found this giant stick and said she was King Triton with his trident.

Pike's Peak in the background. We had lots of fun hiking on trails below. Spencer likes to be the leader and "blaze a trail". Kathryn just likes being able to follow along. Travis would split his time between being up ahead with Spencer and keeping an eye on Kathryn and I was the tail waddling in the rear.

What a beautiful trip. It is amazing what several thousand feet in elevation can do for a climate... Br-r-r! And how nice for you guys that Travis had some time off.
It looks like a very pretty place! Did you drive up to the top? You mentioned hiking below. It made me cold to look at Spencer's bare little toes.
Wow, that is so beautiful Natalie, you guys are so lucky to live in such a gorgeous part of the country! I can't believe how freezing cold it was at the top!
